Un paysage en déchirure
A Torn Landscape
A city is an organic entity in constant evolution. However, like any other organism, it needs all its organs to be interconnected in order to function properly.
What would happen if blood failed to reach a limb of the human body? Unfortunately, that limb would die and would have to be amputated.
In cities, it is not the same: the organ is not amputated; it is still there and forms an integral part of what we call a city. A city chronically ill. Its disconnected parts do not form an organic whole; they are islands of concrete suffering from permanent social ailments.
Public space ceases to be a space for social interaction and the building of a shared community, becoming instead a dismembered landscape, a space for circulation that divides rather than connects.
These discomforts both result from and are the cause of a fragmented city, a broken sense of community, and thus a divided society in which the collective gives way to the individual.
This exhibition does not merely address this; it also recreates it by compelling the viewer to experience a fragmented exhibition space – ultimately, a landscape in disarray.
